Ed Podolak will announce his retirement today from broadcasting at the University of Iowa. Podolak has been calling games since 1982. Ed also played tailback for Iowa and had a successful NFL career. It was no secret to any hawk fan that Ed likes his alcohol after Iowa wins. In all honesty these pictures were nothing to get fired over He wasn't doing anything illegal. Make no mistake about it, Ed didn't just retire, he waas forced out. It is really a shame that this happened. Ed will be missed!
Thanks for all the great years Ed!
So now we have to replace him?
Anthony Herron? Marv Cook? It's going to be a former player... thoughts?

Ed did the right thing here. I agree with Chiakulas that Ed needed to behave better in public (he's 60+ years old for God's sake!).
ReplyDeleteI don't know who should replace him. Anthony Herron seems like a good choice since he's young and is a good speaker.
I've grown up listening to Ed do Iowa football... he will be missed. :(
ReplyDeleteWhat is the big deal. For a "liberal" school they seem to be pretty uptight.
ReplyDeleteI am going to miss him. Sounds like no matter what happened behind the scenes both parties wanted to spare each other a lot of embarrassment. I hope they pick someone who is over the top in his (or her, i guess) love for the Hawkeyes and wears it on their sleeve. I want the home team radio to immediately and always sound like home team radio..
