Football Recruiting Class

Today was national signing day in College Football. Kirk Ferentz and staff signed 19 kids today as expected. There was no "Cedric Everson" surprises today like a few years ago. We were waiting to here from Chris Watt (who stayed with Notre Dame) and Glaud (who flipped a coin and went with Rutgers.

I will give you some studs, sleepers, and solid guys to keep your eye on in this class.

Studs:

Brandon Wegher, who is a 4 star kid from Sioux City. Looks like an excellent runnig back. Look for him to come in and be a contributor at Kick Returner in his freshman year.

Keenan Davis, who is a 4 star WR from Cedar Rapids who brings big play ability to the field right away.

Nolan MacMillan, who is a 3 star Offensive Lineman who choose Iowa over Michigan St. Another one of those big nasty Olineman that Iowa is use to.

Brad Rodgers, who is a 3 star RB from Ohio. You could look at him and Whegher as thunder and lighting. Kid runs tough.

Solid recruits:

Jordan Cotton, who is a 3 star WR from Mount Pleasant,IA. Another playmaker in the slot with blazing speed. Played running back in high school but will play WR in college.

Conor Boffeli, who is a 3 star tight end from Des Moines who was originally committed to Iowa State until Chizek left for Auburn. Boffeli will end up playing offensive line for the hawks.

Drew Clark, big offensive lineman from Marion, Ia. Choose Iowa over Iowa st. Will fit right in at guard for Iowa in the coming years.

Sleepers:

Stephane Ngoumou, who is a 2 star wr from Maryland. Stephane bursted onto the scene in his senior year after not playing football before that. He is a guy that can make plays downfield. Athletic and tall receiver.

Dakota Getz, who is a 2 star tight end from Illinois. Athletic kid who played QB in high school. Will be another player to watch for at tight end for the hawks.

Other players signed today:
Joshua Brown DB
Scott Covert DT
Shane Dibona LB
Tyler Harrell DL
Martin Hopkins DL
Micah Hyde CB
Matt Murphy OL
Jake Reisen LB
Anthony Schiavone TE
Brett Van Sloten OL

  1. I think it looks like a decent class. A couple of above average kids at skill positions and a bunch of kids who sound like leaders and hard workers. Leadership is vastly underrated and I think it was a reason for our couple of years of 'averageness'. I like the class and I like the fact that the higher rated kids are from in state. There is absolutely no evidence to back it up, but they just seem to play harder...
